Among numerous elements, the track and the courtyard are the most significant part of the CIRCLE.
The spiral which rises with infinite green is a large part of this organic mass. With this element, the CIRCLE, a sports R&D lab, becomes pottery that presents a dynamic identity. By this artificial hill, DISC accomplishes harmony with the urban context while maintaining an eco-friendly design.
The courtyard is the heart of the architecture. This open space, placed in the center of the plan, is for creative communication. This device not only intrigues daylight but also an essential spot that explains the facility's identity.
The circular building is hidden in grass and sports facilities. It is hidden in the city and nature located at the mouth of the Nakdong River. It is the world's largest shoe R&D designed with function transformed into form. It was designed to be a building that becomes a landscape in the city and nature based on the design that becomes one with the surrounding landscape. The client wanted to express the corporate spirit of the sports brand through the creation of a creative and win-win relationship with the surroundings.
DISC takes the shape of a circle. This circle consists of a track that runs infinitely with nature, is designed as a test space for sports R&D and a form that contains the brand identity. The architecture has become an artificial hill, emphasizing natural and sustainable design that fits the urban context. It creates a powerful symbol in the form of a circle. It talks about the most stable form while having the dynamics that sports brands imply.
DISC exists as a disk on the ground. It combines with the identity of the sports brand to form a circulation and a shared space in the building. In addition, the spacious floor area allows free and flexible space composition, and it becomes an eco-friendly landmark by harmonizing with the landscape from the outside.
It maintains the continuity of the design, with repeated use of the design vocabulary "circle"
The circle-shaped(like disc) plan is a composition for creative communication between researchers, and the open courtyard inside becomes an architectural device that deeply draws light into the facility, and a space that shows the identity of the track and the facility. This laboratory has the ability to perform various tests. The 400m track within the site can be tested using a variety of floor materials. In addition, the slope created by the difference in height of the building was used to reflect test conditions for each situation.
